Saturday night at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas, Texas Lanardo Tyner(26-8-2, 16KOs) won his welterweight contest against previously unbeaten Charles Hatley(17-1-1) making him the new WBC/USNBC welterweight champion. Tyner only needed sixty-five seconds to dispatch his opponent in the first round of a scheduled ten round bout. Tyner who came out blazing firing with bad intentions from the opening bell seemed to have destruction on his mind. For Hatley this was only his second appearance in a ten round contest and a major step up in competition as well. The way the bout went may have indicated it was too much of a jump for Hatley who was simply out of his league. We had a chance to speak with Tyner about the win as well as what he is hoping to gain from winning the title and here is what the "Pain Server" had to say. If you have not seen the fight footage already:
' I am so focused right now for me it is about keeping my foot firmly on the gas from here on out. This guy made me mad which added fuel to the flame that was already lit. He put his hand in my face a couple times each time I pushed it away but after the second encounter I told him I was going to knock him the f$$k out bad so that is what I went in to do. This was a nice fight for me no doubt but I want to see how I perform in the later rounds of a fight. I been giving the up and coming guys shots at me so now I feel I am deserving of a shot at one of the bigger names in the division. I will fight whoever but I also want the proper time to train and prepare not get in the ring on short notice which I have done many times in my career. I will continue to push myself to greater heights as I chase my dream.'
