Indianapolis based heavyweight Franklin Lawrence lost a tough fight by decision this past Saturday night at the hands of undefeated Andy Ruiz Jr. The two went head to head as the main event on the Top Rank promoted card September 10, 2016 which took place at the Tachi Palace in Lemoore, California. Coming into the bout Lawrence was riding a nine fight win streak with his last loss coming back in 2009 against Oliver McCall. Although Franklin is 40 years old a win in this bout would have pushed him closer to getting into the world title picture.

For Andy Ruiz Jr. this bout was another step towards proving he is right where he belongs, climbing up the division. The unanimous decision win made Ruiz Jr. the new NABF heavyweight champ and his record remains unblimished. For Lawrence on the other hand the future seems a bit uncertain as this was a great opportunity for him to make some big noise and prove he belonged in the heavyweight picture. Time will only tell if we have seen the best of Franklin or possibly the last of him on such a stage.
